Elliot's 9 months stats

Weight: 20lbs 1oz
Height: 31 in
Head: 18 in

In the last month, he has started crawling forwards! (Finally!) Although he can get up on all fours, he's still doing the army crawl, just like his brother.

He is also starting to show signs of comprehension, and has started to babble.

He also got one bottom tooth (right) for Christmas.

Elliot is 5 months

His stats:

Weight: 18 lbs
Height: 27 in
Head: 16.75 in

He is such a happy and social baby - much more so than his brother. He loves to smile at everyone. He is now able to roll over both ways, but he only does it when he's naked. The cloth diapers add too much bulk to his butt and hinder his mobility! The same thing happened with Josh, so I'm not concerned. Eventually, he'll do it with the cloth diapers on. And honestly, I'm in no hurry to have him roll over all the time.

He can now sit unsupported for a few seconds at a time before tumbling into the "tripod" mode, or falling over. He can also stand supported.

I started him on a bit of rice and oatmeal, and he's doing great with it. I mix it with BM. He's really only getting about 6 tiny spoonfuls at a time, but he is doing pretty well with it so I may increase his intake.

He's stopped taking the bottle, so he will only get his nutrition straight from the source. BUT, today, he successfully drank some water out of the sippy!!! So there is hope for him. I will probably skip the bottle all together now, and go straight to the sippy cup. Makes things easier.

Another Video of Grunty Walking

I am not sure but the arm flapping might be keeping him aloft... helps with the balance. ;)

Funny Josh-isms

Some funny things that Joshua can now do/say:

When asked where his nose is, he will shove his finger up his nose. :)

He likes to call all food that he can pick up "buf". This is because we started giving him these rice puffs (I call them "puffs"). He can't pronounce the double f, so he just started saying "buf". Now everything is "buf". Cheerios are buf. Grapes are buf. Tofu pieces are buf. Banana is still nana. :)

He knows a certain male body part and will point to it when asked where it is.

Words that he can say:
Mama
Dada
Up
Buf (as covered above)
Nana (banana)
Baa (sheep)
Wow wow (dog)
Da (duck)
Meow (cat)
Bye
Ga (goat), or for going out ("street")
Ra (rabbit)
Ap (apple)

Words that he can sign:
Bye/hi
Thank you
More
Finished
Milk
Flowers
Duck (quack)
Fish
Spider
Butterfly
Plane (although he hasn't done it recently)

Some Milestones

I just want to share with our fair readers some of Josh's milestones sans pictures. He is growing and learning SO MUCH these days.

He's perfected the "Josh crawl" now. It's more like dragging himself along, but he is very efficient at it and pretty much crawls all over the place. And he loves to grab everything. He's even figured out how to eject the DVD player...

I have been doing ASL (American Sign Language) with him since he was around 5.5 months. I don't think he fully understands the meaning of the signs yet, but he will definitely imitate me. He's done "more", "finished" and tried to do "cheese" the other day. And of course, he knows how to wave "bye". I think it's just a matter of time before he will actually sign back to us and start communicating with us.

Speech-wise, he makes a lot of sounds, but I don't believe they are associated with anything yet. He has said "up" once though, while Tim was pulling him up.

He is also starting to grasp the concept of sharing. He knows how to play/toss a ball around. He will also hand us toys now, whereas before, he just kept everything to himself.

Tonight, he learned how to high five! Tim would stick out his hand, and Josh would slap it. :) He can also initiate a game of peek-a-boo. When we give him a blanket/clothing etc, he'll hold it up to his face, then lower it, then hold it up to his face again!

This is definitely a very fun age.

Weekly albums will be back soon! :)

Crawling

Joshua can crawl! It's more of an army crawl, but he can definitely move... time to baby-proof the house.

Almost 9 month States

Weight: 20lbs 6oz
Head circumference: 18in

He is not gaining as much weight as I thought, (not even 2 lbs in the last 3 months), but all's well, so I'm not complaining. He is still in the high percentiles for his age in terms of weight.

Josh has recently learned how to get from a sitting position to his tummy. He is also pushing himself up now into the "crawling position"... but he hasn't figured out how to move his arms and legs yet (this happened just today). I think I'll have a mobile baby pretty soon. He has also FINALLY figured out that he can roll back onto his back from his tummy. I suspect he knew how to do it a long time ago... but just never did.

He is well onto his solid foods now. I am starting to start him on finger foods now that his pincer grasp is much better.

And he knows how to clap!

Teeth!

Yesterday, I noticed tiny white bumps along Josh's lower gums when he was laughing. Then this morning, I felt his gums and his bottom two teeth had cut. :) He has teeth - just two days after his 7 month birthday.

Regular albums will resume once we are back from Hong Kong.

5 months

Josh turned 5 months last Saturday, and we had our regular check up on Monday. He is now a whopping 17lbs 11oz, which is apparently what a certain 13mo girl weighs... eek. He had his second hep B shot and took it like a pro. He didn't even cry! What a champ.

He rolled over for the first time a week or so ago, but since then he has been unable to do it again. :( I usually help his butt over, and then he can roll over the rest of the way. No sign of being able to do it from his tummy to his back. He is showing signs of wanting to crawl though. When he's on his tummy, he'll "swim" with his arms and legs and then get frustrated when he can't move. Too funny. :) He can now sit unassisted for a few seconds (longer if he's staring at the TV) and he loves to stand on the couch by himself, holding onto the couch back. He can only do this for a few seconds though, before his knees buckle.

He's going to start oatmeal tomorrow!

Happy Six Weeks, Grunty!

It has been exactly six weeks since J's birth. While the past six weeks seem to have passed by very quickly, there are also moments where it felt like an eternity. We have been fortunate enough to watch J grow and develop, from the early concerns about feeding to his healthy weight of over 10 lbs now. His arms, legs, hands, and feet are getting chubby and he is filling out his initially lanky body. Just this week, he started mimicking us in sticking out his little tongue, and this morning he let out his first giggle. It is amazing how quickly he is developing.

Giggle and Laughter

Tonight while Mommy was burping J after the 21:30 feeding, we heard his first giggle. He was smiling after he let out a big burp and then we hear the giggle. It was just for a moment but we feel ecstatic. Of course, efforts from us to coax a follow-on performance are unsuccessful, but we will be on the lookout for when it happens again.

"Full Month" Dinner

For Josh's full month dinner, we went out to O&B for dinner with Grandma. It was our first time out in a restaurant together and thankfully, Josh behaved. Daddy even fed him at the table.
